Independent Media Arts Preservation [IMAP] celebrates launch of its
new web resource Archiving the Arts.

This web project's goal is to provide media artists and the caretakers
of artists' collections with resources to help ensure survival of
these unique works. IMAP created this resource to provide real-world
case studies of these ideas in practice.

Artists working with video, audio, and digital materials face unique
challenges. Conventional archival practices for the care of electronic
media do not take into account the need for many artists to maintain
earlier works and raw material for their ongoing practice - in other
words, the need for a true working archive.

Further, it can be difficult for archival institutions to develop
strategies for the care of unique works that may not always adhere to
best practices.

Archiving the Arts contains six in-depth case studies that cover a
range of preservation efforts:  Bay Area Video Coalition, Dachau 1974,
Goldsen Archive of New Media, Phil Morton, Videofreex, and Video Data
